KeymasterI’m midway through moving house. It is such a stressful thing to do and there are so many hidden costs, even things like not being able to eat at home for a day or two, not to mention removalists, utility connections etc. And, we only saw the house we’re moving into for about 10 minutes when it was filled with other prospective tenants. Only just realized that there are no robes or cupboards in the kids rooms, which is a recipe for total chaos!

KeymasterI helped my neighbour move out from a domestic violence situation on the weekend. Its SO HARD to make the move from one rental to another. You have to pack up, clean, find another place, pay bond and rent, pay transport to move your stuff, buy new things, find new housemates. But to do all that while moving stuff out and having an ex-partner yelling and sabotaging… There are so many reasons and traps that keep people living with DV. But its really tragic that moving between private rentals is another one.
There should be something like the opposite of bond, a grace period to help you cover the cost of moving or something!
