After a successful election campaign, this page has been archived. See our continuing campaign for action of older peoples housing and homelessness here
Housing for the Aged Action Group & the National Alliance of Seniors for Housing are campaigning together in the upcoming federal election for:
• More Housing
• More Support
• Less Inequality
We can’t afford another three years of inaction while older people are the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness in this country.
As we heard from Tanya Plibersek MP at the At Risk Forum in 2021:
Email, write, phone, visit, tell your story, talk to MPs, be prepared to vote on it.Tanya Plibersek MP
These are the actions we can take to influence the change in federal parliament and get real action on affordable housing for older people.
Writing directly to federal ministers and candidates is one of the best ways to get our issues on the table. Here is an example letter to send
Politicians need to hear the real stories from the coal face of the older peoples housing crisis. Share your story with others on this forum and we will HAAG will collate these stories into a message we will send to federal politicians and candidates.
Arranging meetings with politicians can be daunting. But older people from across the country are stepping up and taking on the challenge of meeting with politicians, and are sharing their experiences and opinions on this forum and encouraging you to do the same. We’ve also put together this helpful toolkit.
We’ve come a long way towards putting older peoples housing on the federal parties and even independents agenda. But come May 21st, we have to make sure to vote on it. Our election scorecard rates the major parties responses to our key demands. Please consider this when you cast your vote and encourage others to do the same by sharing and distributing this in your community.
