Brad Pettitt is the only Greens in the WA Legislative Assembly. He is a former Mayor of Fremantle and I am a friend of his sister. I know the Greens have a housing policy as they asked me to share my story at the launch a few years back.

Our Connect with Home for Women Group, which formed directly after the launch of the Ageing on the Edge Report in late 2019 has been very active.
We are continuing to meet fortnightly for peer support and on the look out for affordable housing opportunities.

I haven’t had shared housing experience, however a friend has and it wound up in a court case. Her housemate complained about everything my friend did (breathing?)! The magistrate eventually dismissed the case saying the claims were puerile!! My friend managed to break the lease and leave…..

Getting excited as it looks like we have housed another lady through Connect with Home group. She is 83 and faced $150 per fortnight rent increase!

I have found that making contact with local newspaper journalists and radio show hosts a good way to alert the public to the issues.

I’m feeling confident that our new WA Minister for Housing, John Carey will be proactive in addressing the broken public housing situation in WA. He has already announced that he plans to address the problem of hundreds of vacant public housing awaiting maintenance. 😳
